100K and 50K Bicycle Tour of the Foothills!
Sunday, June 23, 2002 • Sorry, but this event is over.

Tour the lands the Committee has worked to protect!
Join us on a bicycle tour that will take us over the back roads of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties and through the woodlands where Committee for Green Foothills members have worked for the past 40 years to protect open space.

You can choose either a 100k or slower-paced 50k ride, each led by local cyclists and environmental leaders. Both rides leave from Peers Park in Palo Alto, and return to the park for a box lunch after the ride.

This is a group tour, not a supported ride -- riders must be self-sufficient! There is no support (SAG) on this ride. We will stop to regroup, but there are no food stops -- bring your own snacks and water, an extra tube, and a patch kit! These tours are not appropriate for riders under 18.

Note: ride details have changed since our January newsletter was published.

100k Tour
The 100k ride will follow a challenging and hilly route along the foothills and ultimately to the Skyline ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains. If you are accustomed to cycling at a "C" pace for 4-5 hours, this is the ride for you.
Conditions could range from heat to fog and drizzle. We will regroup at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve and two other locations for water and to take in the magnificent views.

100k Ride Leaders: Steve Schmidt (Menlo Park Mayor), Lyresa Pleskovitch (Western Wheelers member)

50k Tour
The 50k group will ride a shorter and easier route, passing the Stanford Foothills, Coyote Hill, and Esther Clark Park on the way to the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve for water and restrooms. This will be a fun, unsupported ride for the experienced "B" rider capable of a 35-mile ride at approximately 10 mph. We will ride rolling hills with a few steep but short climbs. Be prepared to ride for 3.5 to 4 hours. We will regroup frequently and to enjoy the views.

50k Ride Leaders: Dorothy Bender (CGF Board member), Rao Loka (Western Wheelers member), Debbie Mytels (Western Wheelers member)
