Thanks to the generosity of the Midpeninsula
Regional Open Space District and their docents, we are pleased to
offer two docent-led hikes along the beautiful Montebello Ridge to individuals
attending our September 8 event.
Moderate hike - Monte Bello loop

Distance: 4.3 miles, moderate pace

Start: Sunday, September 8, 2002, 1:00pm, upper Ridge Vineyards
(look for the green feet signs)

Enjoy a scenic trek up the less accessible side of Black Mountain with
MROSD docents Chris MacIntosh and Mary Bernstein. Take in stunning views
across Stevens Creek Canyon as well as signs of current and historic orchards
and vineyards. This hike will take in the land's beauty and benefits!
Space is limited to 30 hikers -- RSVP required.

Bring drinking water and dress in layers. Restrooms
will be available at the winery. The hike will take 3-4 hours. You'll
return to Ridge Vineyards in time to freshen up before the event.
Leisurely hike - Picchetti Ranch loop

Distance: 3 miles, leisurely pace

Start time: Sunday, September 8, 2002, 2:00pm, Picchetti Ranch
Open Space Preserve parking lot

Join MROSD docents Harry Cornbleet and Dick Gehrer for a trip back in
time to a winery built in the 1890's. We'll explore the area's history
and environs, including mixed oak woodland, heritage orchards and vineyards,
and the chapparral-covered hills and views of Stevens Creek Reservoir.
Space is limited to 30 hikers -- RSVP required.

Bring drinking water and dress in layers.
Water and restrooms are available at the Preserve. The hike will take
2-3 hours. Afterwards, you'll drive about 15 minutes to the top Monte
Bello Road where you'll park at the upper Ridge Vineyards and can freshen
up before the event. (Restrooms will be available at the winery.) Look
for the green feet signs!
