Speak up for our watershed
Posted August 10, 2004 / Updated September 12, 2010

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is holding a hearing next week on the proposed Jefferson-Martin project that would bring 230 kilovolt power lines down the Peninsula to meet increased demand and avoid outages.

What's happening
As recommended by Committee for Green Foothills and many others, the CPUC will consider approving an environmentally-sound version of this project known as "President Peevey's Alternate Decision." This would underground lines along the entire southern section of the project (between the Jefferson Substation in Redwood City and Trousdale Avenue in Burlingame) and keep transmission towers out of Edgewood Park and the Peninsula Watershed.

However, a group of neighbors is asking the CPUC to move a portion of the line from underneath Skyline Boulevard to the San Francisco Watershed lands, which are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

CGF opposes this, as do many others including the National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife, SF Planning and Urban Research Association, California Native Plant Society, Sierra Club and Audubon Society.

What you can do

1. Speak up now!
It's important that we phone and write to the CPUC to support the environmentally sound version of this project and keep lines out of the watershed south of Trousdale.

Please take a minute to call or write to the Public Advisor for the CPUC stating your support for President Peevey's Alternate Decision, and ask them to move forward without delay.

Send your comments to:

Please contact the CPUC by Wednesday, August 16. Every letter, email and call counts -- together, our voices will make a difference.
