Silicon Valley Jewish Music Festival Spend a beautiful summer afternoon at the Silicon Valley Jewish Music Festival and don't forget to stop by and say hi at the CGF table. Enjoy music from nationally and internationally recognized musicians, Moshav Band, Dan Nichols, and Six13, as well as local favorites The Klezmakers and The Sinaites. There will be food and drinks for sale, artisan vendors, activities for children, booths hosted by various community organizations, and more. Devil's Slide Coast Hike Join CGF and the National Park Service for a great hike through Rancho Corral de Tierra, the newest park site in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Come out and explore the open space preserved by the construction of the Devil's Slide Tunnel and get an overview of the 3,800 acres of new parkland. Learn how Rancho fits in with the surrounding open space and listen to the story of how this new park was protected thanks to community activism. Meet our very own award-winning Legislative Advocate, Lennie Roberts, who will join us for lunch to discuss the many years of hard work that culminated in the recent opening of the "people's tunnel". Coyote Valley Family Farm Feast Come say hi to CGF, we'll be out tabling at this great event. Show your support for a healthy agricultural economy in Santa Clara County. Seldom Seen Come learn about the behavior and conservation needs of these two elusive species, both holding onto remnant habitat in our urban environment. Join Bill Leikam, to hear his amazing stories and see footage of fox families living in our creeks and baylands. Greg Kerekes, photographer and naturalist, will share his images, songs, and stories about Burrowing Owls in Santa Clara County, a dwindling population that is losing its home to "infill" development. Permanente Creek Watershed Tour Do you ever wonder where storm water goes, whether fish live in our streams and how our daily activities affect our waterways? There are approximately 2,110 watersheds in the continental United States, what purpose do they serve and how do we affect their function? It is time to step back and look at the bigger picture of the important role local watersheds play in our communities. Join CGF and GreenTown Los Altos for a Permanente Creek Watershed Tour, a full day bus tour of our local watershed. This tour contains a wide breadth of information from a variety of perspectives, whether you are interested in wildlife, habitat restoration, flood protection, or creek history, this tour has a little something for everyone! Enjoy a bus tour of the Permanente Creek Watershed filled with flora and fauna, expert speakers and a delicious creekside lunch. Be prepared for moderate walking. Tickets: $35, ages 18 and older. "Mystery" Hike Exciting news! The mystery hike is a mystery no more; CGF has received special permission to give you an exclusive look at the Kammerer property up behind Sierra Vista. Join Santa Clara Open Space Authority and CGF for this great opportunity to explore this newly acquired piece of open space that is completely undeveloped and not yet open to the public. Be one of the first to view this beautiful landscape, bordering the Cherry Flats Reservoir. Space is limited, this hike is open to ages 7 and up. Stegner's Bench Hike Come join us in a salute to Wallace Stegner, founding President of CGF, on what would have been his 104th birthday. We will take a moderate 1-1.5 hour hike up to Stegner's Bench in Long Ridge Preserve. There we will relax and enjoy a special presentation by Lynn Stegner, where she will share her favorite passage and memory of Wallace with us. Turning the Tide Saturday, February 9, 2013 •9:00am-12:00pm CGF and Save the Bay are partnering to bring you an exciting educational program followed by a birding event that will showcase the Baylands, one of the best-known birding sites in the West Coast. Come learn more about local environmental efforts and how you can lend a much needed hand and a voice to help protect open space treasures in our backyard. Take this opportunity to meet CGF's Legislative Advocate, Alice Kaufman, who will share the importance of protecting similar crucial habitat and how you can get involved. Learn from Save the Bay's Habitat Restoration Director, Donna Ball, as she delves into transition zone habitat restoration and invites you to get involved through various volunteer opportunities and a potential citizen-based avian monitoring program. This indoor presentation will be followed by a docent-led birding session, where local birders will share their expertise and love of this birding hot spot. In addition to the talk, representatives from four major trail systems ( San Francisco Bay Trail, Bay Area Ridge Trail, SF Bay Water Trail, and Coastwalk California) will be available to answer questions and help you discover the next great local trail to explore!
