The latest scoop on Coyote Valley

Welcome to the first installment of our monthly Coyote Valley updates!

Panattoni Warehouse Project
It’s been several months since the City of San Jose held a community scoping meeting on the Panattoni Development Company’s proposal for a warehouse/distribution center in North Coyote Valley. For a recap of that meeting, see this blog post. Thanks to you, the city received dozens of written comments and heard from over 100 community members at the scoping meeting.

Since then, the city has been busy conducting the environmental review of the Panattoni project. The latest update from the Planning Department estimates that the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) will be released sometime around August of this year.

When the DEIR is released, we will immediately let you know about it. Time will be of the essence because the period for submitting comments on a DEIR is only 30 days. Many environmental organizations, conservation agencies and scientists will be submitting comments about the environmental impacts of the Panattoni project, but the city needs to hear from community members like you too.

How To Get Involved

We need to spread the word about the importance of Coyote Valley! Here’s how you can help:

  • Follow the I Love Coyote Valley Facebook page. We currently have over 1800 followers on Facebook – help us get to 2,000 by sharing with your friends!
  • Come on a hike with the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority– check their calendar for upcoming events in Coyote Valley.
  • You can also explore Coyote Valley on your own. The Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve is a beautiful place to go hiking, and a bike ride along the Coyote Creek Trail is not to be missed! (Warning: the Coyote Creek Trail is currently closed between Bailey and Metcalf Road due to damage from this winter’s flooding; take an alternate route for that section.)

Once again, thank you so much for joining us in speaking up to protect Coyote Valley. Together, we can make a difference!
