Private school development
proposal denied by Woodside Developers of the private school complex development proposed for a 92-acre parcel in rural Woodside have decided not to appeal the decision of the Planning Commission last week to deny the project. The controversial proposal for a large private school complex along Highway 280 between Sand Hill and Woodside Roads would have caused innumerable irreversible environmental impacts, including significant losses in one of the area's best blue oak woodlands. Committee for Green Foothills -- along with a vocal group of Woodside residents, other environmental groups, and many others in surrounding communities -- opposed this development proposal from the beginning. Its approval would have set a terrible precedent of development along the western Sand Hill Road corridor, opened up many rural areas to intensive development, undermined the Town's General Plan, and opened up other rural areas to intensive and institutional development. The school, which has been working to develop this property for years, cited the mounting expenses, delays and ongoing appeal process as reasons for withdrawing the proposal. Phillips Brooks will remain at its campus in Menlo Park, where it just signed a new 21-year lease. For more information about CGF's work on this
