Santa Cruz County dumps landfill idea

At last Thursday's hearing in Watsonville, the Santa Cruz County Waste Management Task Force permanently removed from consideration the two sites about which CGF was concerned. Ultimately, they voted to table consideration of the other proposed landfill sites and focus instead on alternatives to local landfills, including waste reduction, conversion, and out-of-county options.

Thanks to everyone who wrote and spoke up on this issue -- we helped prevent serious environmental damage that would have been caused by the proposed landfill sites 29 and 30, forested sites near Año Nuevo, surrounded by state parks and that provide watershed and habitat for endangered species.
