Support Public Access to Martin’s Beach

Martin's Beach-sunsetJoin me and State Senator Jerry Hill in urging the State Lands Commission to use their power of eminent domain to acquire a public right of way or easement for public access to Martin’s Beach. Send an email to the Commission using the form below, and urge them to pursue acquisition of a public right of way to Martin’s Beach through eminent domain. If you can, attend the State Lands Commission meeting in Sacramento on Tuesday, December 6 at 10 am.

Thanks for speaking up for public access!  Your voice does make a difference.

More about What’s Happening
Martin’s Beach, just south of Half Moon Bay, has traditionally been open to the public.  In 2010, however, the new owner closed the gate and put up “No Trespassing” signs without proper permitting and public notification and hearings.  Senator Jerry Hill’s SB 868 authorized the State Lands Commission to use eminent domain if negotiations to acquire public access were unsuccessful.  Unfortunately, no agreement has been reached.  On Tuesday, December 6, the State Lands Commission will consider in closed session, whether to use its eminent domain authority.  The Commission invites public testimony to inform their decision.

Why This is Important
The State Constitution guarantees the right of access to the coast. Despite a year of negotiations by State Lands Commission staff, there is still no agreement on full public access.  It’s time to reach a resolution to this impasse.
