SUMMARY:Book Discussion: Lynn Stegner’s “The Half-Life of Guilt”
DESCRIPTION:Green Foothills invites you to the first of two events featuring Lynn Stegner’s book The Half-Life of Guilt. The first event is a virtual kickoff conversation on Wednesday\, August 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. \nWhether you’ve read one page\, a few chapters\, or the entire book\, or even if you haven’t cracked open the book yet\, you’re welcome to join us for this relaxed virtual gathering introducing The Half-Life of Guilt by Lynn Stegner. As the daughter-in-law of Pulitzer-prize winning author Wallace Stegner\, one of the founders of Green Foothills\, Lynn offers a unique perspective on the enduring connection between people\, place\, and conservation. \nWhat to Expect\nDuring this event\, we’ll explore the novel’s central themes\, discuss how they connect to Green Foothills’ mission\, and prepare for meeting the author in-person later this fall. \nReading the entire book is not required for this first event\, though we encourage you to read a little beforehand if you’re able. This casual\, come-as-you-are conversation is designed to spark curiosity and share first impressions. There will be plenty of opportunities to reflect\, ask questions\, and hear what stood out to others\, no matter where you are in your reading journey. \nThis is the first of two events where we’ll discuss the book. In mid-October\, we’ll welcome Lynn to the Peninsula for an intimate in-person “Meet the Author” event featuring a conversation with the author\, audience Q&A\, and a book signing. We recommend reading all or most of the book before the October event so you can fully enjoy the discussion with Lynn. \nWe hope you’ll join us for one or both events as we celebrate literature\, legacy\, and our shared connection to the landscapes that inspire and sustain us. \nThis event is free of charge\, but advance registration is required. Please fill out the registration form separately for each attendee.

SUMMARY:San Mateo Stories by the Sea
DESCRIPTION:Green Foothills invites you to San Mateo Stories by the Sea\, a guided coastal walk through the trails of the Francis Beach area of Half Moon Bay State Beach on Thursday\, July 30 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. \nJoin us for a leisurely 1 to 1.5-mile walk where the beautiful coastline is the backdrop for stories of Green Foothills’ history\, the landscapes we’ve helped protect\, and the conservation efforts shaping San Mateo County today. \nGuiding us on our journey will be a Half Moon Bay State Beach Interpreter who will share fascinating insights about the area’s unique coastal ecology and lead us in a short nature journaling activity\, offering a chance to slow down\, observe\, and connect with the natural world. \nThe route includes a mix of paved paths\, sandy sections\, and some unpaved trails. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes\, dressing in layers for the ever-changing coastal weather\, and wearing pants with long socks\, as portions of the trail may be overgrown. \nThis event is free of charge but there is a $10 parking fee. \nAdvance registration is required.
