Paul Says Goodbye

by Paul Ledesma

With no small amount of melancholy, I’ve decided to leave the Committee for Green Foothills family at the end of March. Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your tribe. While I’ll miss the day-to-day work to protect our open spaces, I’ll especially miss the warmth and kindness that’s been extended to me by the board, staff, and supporters of Committee for Green Foothills.

My professional journey started in 1990. That was quite a while ago and I’ve done a lot for which I’m very proud. After 28 years, I think it’s now time for me to step off, make room for others, and, to quote Camus, “…rediscover, through the detours of art, those two or three great and simple images in whose presence his heart first opened.”

There are some personal goals that I really want to accomplish. My hope is that these new pursuits will lead to the few simple images Camus mentioned by returning my focus to the passions of family, home, and music. It’s only one life and there’s so much to do.

So, while the sun is still shining on me, and with a full heart, I’ll take this opportunity to wish my Committee for Green Foothills family continued success as I start my new journey.

Paul’s last day with Committee for Green Foothills will be March 30. With his departure, we have an opening for a new Santa Clara County Legislative Advocate. For more information or to apply please see: www.greenfoothills.org/get-involved/career-opportunities/

Thank you, Paul Ledesma, for all 28 years of your public service. The Committee for Green Foothills has accomplished much, but certainly has major work ahead, especially in preserving Coyote Valley. The saying goes “Money can always wait” I’m afraid that the biggest test of our determination lies in the insidious donation of land to Gavilan College right in the middle of the Coyote Valley. If this campus is developed, with hardscape of buildings and parking lots, it will be inevitable that more off campus “support” development will soon follow. Be on high alert and get ready to begin a lobbying effort that will take all of our efforts to divert this philanthropic ploy.
