The Cordoba Center, a complex for Islamic religious and cultural facilities, is a project being proposed in rural San Martin. Now in its second iteration, the project’s footprint is raising new concerns of urban level development and impacts in a rural area.
In February of 2017, Committee for Green Foothills, along with the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, submitted scoping comments on the Notice of Preparation for the Cordoba Center. Our organizations expressed the concern that the proposed project exceeds size thresholds for local serving institutions and will consequently generate excessive impacts on the rural setting of the area and on environmental resources.
Our Goal: We are seeking a reduction in the physical size of the project to reflect the rural nature of the San Martin Planning Area.
