Unstrung Heroes: Art Exhibit & Online Sale to Benefit Green Foothills

Up-and-coming young artist Maya Anand, founder of Unstrung Heroes, is generously supporting Green Foothills with a virtual art exhibit and online art sale. Please check out the exhibit from February 6-24 and purchase art in support of Green Foothills’ mission!

Maya, age 11, founded this initiative to bring art and interior décor to life using recycled materials. This precocious and talented young woman has been passionate about art since the age of three and has focused her first art collection on giving items considered trash new life. She specifically focused on broken musical instruments like violins and hence the name – Unstrung Heroes. Maya has generously donated her works of art to support Green Foothills’ mission to protect local nature.

During the week of February 6-24, you can view Maya’s works of art online and purchase them in support of youth, the arts, upcycling, and then environment, with all net proceeds benefiting Green Foothills. Sign up for this event below to receive a email reminder on February 6.

Maya Anand has shown interest in art since the age of three. Although most kids her age dabble with art and crafts, she was accepted as a student in the local art studio (CD’s art studio in Cambrian Park Plaza) because of her ability to focus for hours together coupled with her fine motor skills.

Over the years, Maya has built a style for herself by making unique pieces of art using materials otherwise left for trash. Given her exposure to music during her childhood, her first art collection brings broken musical instruments like violins to life and hence the name – Unstrung Heroes. She hopes to expand her art through other collections in the future.

Maya has contributed part of the proceeds from her auctions and sales towards various nonprofit organizations like Pencils of Promise (to build a school in Africa) and most recently to Green Foothills, an organization committed to protecting nature and the environment in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.

Maya lives in San Jose, California with her parents (who take care of the business aspects of Unstrung Heroes) and her younger sister, Swara Anand, who is 7 years old. Apart from art, Maya pursues classical Indian music and swimming. Learn more about Maya and Unstrung heroes
