Big Wave Project Approved

Big Wave Project Approved

H-BigWave-Bryan_BeckAfter years of appeals, meetings, research, and advocacy by Committee for Green Foothills and others, the final Big Wave project was approved by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. While we do not believe a development of this size is appropriate for this area, the final project is a vast improvement over what it was when it was first proposed 10 years ago, thanks to the work of our environmental coalition (including Sierra Club, Surfrider Foundations, Pillar Ridge Homeowners Association, and the San Mateo County League for Coastside Protection).

We still have some fundamental reservations regarding this project, but we believe the revised project is reasonably in conformance with the County’s Local Coastal Program. We thank Supervisor Horsley and the San Mateo County Planning staff for the time and attention to our concerns.

For more information on our advocacy work on Big Wave and the final project, please see our Big Wave project page and Advocate Lennie Robert’s recent letter to the board of supervisors.
