On January 11, we welcomed the 12th annual cohort of training participants into the Green Foothills Leadership Program. From January through August, this year’s 26 participants will learn the secrets of effective advocacy, with a focus on conservation and environmental justice. They’ll learn how to plan and lead an environmental campaign, set goals, engage the community, and find and influence decision-makers. As a capstone project, the cohort will plan their own campaigns on topics of interest to them. Participants receive support and feedback from staff and peers throughout the program. They also have opportunities to meet program alumni, and after completing the program they themselves become part of the program’s alumni network.
The Leadership Program’s goal is to grow a more inclusive local conservation movement. Each year’s cohort includes participants from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. All of them live, work, or go to school in San Mateo, Santa Clara, or San Benito Counties. The Leadership Program is tuition-free and is offered in both English and Spanish, with seven of this year’s participants speaking Spanish as their primary language. Childcare and transportation are made available as needed.
To learn more about participants in this year’s program, you can read their individual biographies on our website.
The Green Foothills Leadership Program is tuition-free, thanks to generous support from Applied Materials Foundation Community Fund, the County of Santa Clara, North Santa Clara Resource Conservation District (NSCRCD), Sand Hill Foundation, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Wildlife Conservation Network’s California Wildlife Program, and Green Foothills donors. Please consider making a donation to support the Leadership Program.
