Birds on the Bay

August 23 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
birds flying across bay

Green Foothills invites you to Birds on the Bay, a guided bird watching adventure through the beautiful Palo Alto Baylands on Sunday, August 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Timed to coincide with the mid-to-high tide, this short walk offers a wonderful opportunity to spot a variety of shorebirds and waterfowl as they gather along the Bay. We’ll be joined by expert naturalists from the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory, who will help us discover and identify the incredible birdlife that calls this special place home.

We’ll meet at the Lucy Evans Baylands Nature Interpretive Center before setting off along the San Francisquito Trail. After walking the trail, we’ll stroll the boardwalk to the Bay, and we’ll explore a few additional trails if time allows. The trails are flat and mostly paved with some unpaved (but compact) areas.

Parking is limited so we encourage you to carpool if possible. Please bring your own binoculars if you have them, and we’ll also have a few extras available to borrow. Since much of the walk is in the full sun, we also recommend bringing a hat, water, and wearing sunscreen.

Whether you’re an experienced birder or simply curious about the birds you see around the Bay, this walk is a wonderful way to explore the Baylands, learn from local experts, and deepen your appreciation for the remarkable wildlife that calls this special place home.

This event is free of charge. Please fill out the online form separately for each attendee.
